The Diocese of Nashville reported in 2004 that seven priests with ties to the diocese had abused children in the past.

The diocese did not identify the abusers.

The Tennessean has identified five priests as abusers:

• Ron Dickman, former principal of Father Ryan High School, left the priesthood in 1991 after making sexual contact with the son of a Catholic family in Nashville.

• Paul Frederick Haas, who died in 1978, was accused of abusing more than 100 people.

• Franklin T. Richard admitted to abusing three boys at Knoxville Catholic High School in 1985. He reached a financial settlement with the victims, and then was sent to treatment. He was later reassigned to active ministry at Christ the King parish in Nashville, and Immaculate Conception parish in Clarksville. He resigned from the priesthood in 1989.

• Edward J. McKeown was removed from active priesthood in 1989. He admitted to abusing more than 20 boys. In 1995, he was convicted of raping a
12-year-old boy and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

• Roger Lott, a Benedictine monk, lives in seclusion in St. Bernard's Abbey in Birmingham, Ala. According to published reports, Lott has never denied allegations of abuse but said he was an alcoholic and did not remember sexually abusing anyone.
